There’s a Reason the Edges Aren’t Sewn

The fact that both ends of a tenugui are left raw does not mean it is a defective product.

This is a traditional Japanese practice that prioritizes the benefits of having no seams: “better water drainage (faster drying)” and “hygiene, as dirt doesn’t accumulate.”

Additionally, as mentioned earlier, it’s also so that the cloth can be “torn by hand for use in first aid.”
